Techcycle is a unique program that grew out of the desire of Dr. Anthony Mazzullo, Stamford´s Superintendent of Schools, to place a computer in the home of every 4^th grade student in the City of Stamford. 

Techcycle was born under the leadership of Garry Feldman, U.S. Computer Connection and has evolved into a consortium of businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions.  Its goal was to solicit contributions of unneeded computers from area businesses and individuals, and recycle them to families of 4^th grade students who might not have the ability to purchase a family computer. 

Recognizing the tech skills that exist in the students of Stamford´s schools, The Academy of Information Technology, Stamford H.S., Westhill H.S. and Wright Tech will provide the student labor to bring the computers up to Techcycle minimum standards and install all necessary educational software.  The students, along with participating community organization CTE, will help to train the students and their families in the assembly and use of their system. 

Families will be selected based upon need and the willingness to participate in parent/student training.  After the families bring home their "new" computers, students will staff a limited help desk to answer basic questions about the equipment and the programs.

This project pulls together all facets of the Stamford Community to accomplish three important goals, 

¨    eliminating the digital divide which prevents the less affluent members of our community from becoming computer literate,

¨    providing students with another tool to help them improve literacy and math skills,

¨    providing Stamford high school students with the opportunity to hone real world business skills in computer service, training and user support. 

But this project would not exist without donations from caring, concerned individuals who take the time to call up and donate their used, but not abused computer equipment to start the ´cycle´ working.  Whether you are a business with a number of older computers, or an individual with just one-please take the moment and make the call.  Stamford´s children are waiting.
